Hi, my name is Awstin Pettit and I'm fundraising for Andrew Kozak and his family.

In early March Andrew was experiencing dizziness, shortness of breath and chest pain. Thankfully his girlfriend persisted that an ambulance be called as he was defibrillated over a dozen times shortly thereafter. On March 16th Andrew was diagnosed with myocarditis, which was worsened by the contraction of covid-19. In short, he is experiencing rapid/irregular heart rhythms. Andrew spent two weeks in a Windsor hospital before being transferred to London to have an ICD (Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) inserted in his chest. This device normalizes the rhythm of his heart rate, maintaining a consistent heartbeat by delivering electric shocks when needed. With a prognosis diagnosed, Andrew was released and started his road to recovery.

Unfortunately, on May 7th Andrew was shocked by his ICD because he went into Ventricular Tachycardia (v-tech). The overwhelming anxiety experienced by Andrew caused the ICD to shock him numerous times. He had to be sedated and put on a ventilator to give his heart a chance to return to a regular rhythm. To make matters worse he now also has pneumonia. He is currently heavily sedated in the ICU, sporadically communicating with his family with letters.

We pray and hope that sedation can be reduced to allow for him to start his recovery process again. When he is taken off the ventilator and sedation is diminished, we ask that he does not have to stress about finances for himself, his girlfriend Stephanie or her two young boys. Stephanie is an exceptional photographer (call her for weddings, family photos, etc.) but has had to cancel all shoots to care for and be with Andrew. Any donation is greatly appreciated.
