Since first being diagnosed with advanced heart failure and having to undergo her first quadruple bypass heart operation back in 2020, Anoma is now facing one of the biggest challenges of her life both physically and financially.

Recently, Anoma had to undergo a second bypass heart surgery as the first one had become infected, and of course, doctors had to act quickly as this infection had made her septic and offset many other health-related issues, including stage 4 kidney failure. This operation was a major procedure that she was hesitant to undergo due to the fact she’s just been sick for way too long and started to lose her faith and will to keep fighting. She finally decided to go ahead and proceed with the second bypass surgery, but little did she know that 6 days after, as she was recovering, she had a really bad stroke which affected her whole left side from head to toe drastically. As badly as she knew she needed to move forward with the needed procedures, she is constantly worried about not being able to make ends meet with bills and no source of income. With being hospitalized for months at a time, and the amount of therapy she needs to undergo, her insurance is not covering all expenses, and as an unemployed patient, this has become very difficult to make ends meet.

During her recovery, Anoma won’t be able to earn an income as she’s deemed disabled and still hasn’t been able to get approved for disability to at least help with some financial stress. At the same time, the financial burden of surgery, follow-up care, and insurance costs is overwhelming. Her out-of-pocket maximum has already been reached, and yet, there are still more bills coming in. Her insurance co-pays alone are sky-high, and with no income during recovery, it’s becoming harder and harder to stay afloat.
