Marti Sutton Medical Fundraiser

My friends kept asking to have a fundraiser for me. I was very hesitant because I actually pride myself in doing for others.  Surprisingly, some friends started working on a fundraiser for  me, and eventually told me about it.  So, humbly I agreed.

On July 24 at 7:15am,  while driving to my dentist, Dr, Wilson's office in Eldorado, I was struck by a motorist on my scooter.  I was life flighted to Saint Louis University Hospital where I had a severe concussion, a compound fractured femur, broken tibia, two upper cradle, one lower cradle pelvis fractures, large lacerations on my forehead, bruised ribs, and other bones.  I would have not made it, had I not had on a helmet.  I had two surgeries at SLU, and was there for six days.   I made great progress there.  Several friends and family came to see me at SLU.  My husband Mark, of almost twenty years, only left my side to eat.

I was then transferred to ARC Rehab in the Herrin Hospital, just down the street from where I live.   I was very happy to be closer to friends and family, who embraced me with prayers and hugs.  I was there for one week, worked really hard, knowing I wanted to be there for the first day of school to meet my new fourth grade class.  I was released, and continue out patient therapy and scheduled visits to SLU to my orthopedic surgeon.
The man who hit me had no insurance, and was driving a borrowed car that was not insured.  He was ticketed for lack of insurance and failure to yield.  My scooter, of course, was totaled.  I had liability on my scooter and $25,000 uninsured motorist on my policy.  Unfortunatly, that was only a little over half of the life flight to SLU.   My fundraiser is on September 21 @ Walker's Bluff.  Many said they could not attend but would like to donate, so now you can. My friend Randi Miller is hosting my fundraiser, and welcomes any questions or silent auction donations.   I appreciate all of the flowers, cards, texts, calls, meals, hugs, and prayers you have all blessed Mark and I with.  I am very fortunate to be back teaching my fourth grade Pop-Tarts part time, and am working very hard to returning full time.  It is a long road of recovery ahead, but I am always keeping positive thoughts.  Thank you all so very much.  Donate if you can, but please do not feel obligated.  Much love to you all.
