Help Shane Yates Live with CML Leukemia
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ouriel Maman and I am starting a GoFundMe for my father-in-law Shane Yates, a man who has spent his life serving his community. Shane was just diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.
Shane has always gone above and beyond to be a kind and kindred spirit to all those he's crossed paths with, and believes that life rewards the good that we do. He is a builder by profession and a business owner, using decades of experience and expertise to help clients craft the homes of their dreams. He works with families, often doing construction for lower rates or even at cost to help those in need.
He's a proud husband of 27 years, a father of two strong daughters, and a grandfather to a 7-year-old granddaughter and a newborn baby girl. They are the loves of his life.
After working in construction for 30 years, Shane and his wife Gina decided to pack their lives up into a camper and began traveling across the US. For the past two years they've been exploring across state lines all while continuing to work on the road. Their great adventure hit a peak this summer in meeting their new granddaughter for the first time.
In mid-October, Shane had pain in his stomach and began to rapidly lose weight at a rate of 2-3 lbs a day. He scheduled an appointment with his doctor, had blood work done, and went home to wait for diagnosis. Shane received a call the next day instructing him to immediately go to the ER, as his blood work showed a dangerously high white blood count and he was at risk of having a stroke.
At the hospital, Shane underwent a bone marrow biopsy and dialysis. After days of waiting in the ICU, doctors diagnosed Shane with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. The drug prescribed to treat this form of leukemia costs over $7,100.00 a week (more than $30,000.00 a month), and will be required to treat Shane's cancer for the rest of his life. Doctors have advised he cannot return to work with this diagnosis.
If you know Shane, you know he is a hard worker; dedicated to his craft, to his clients, and his community. He's a beloved husband, father, and now grandfather. I am so proud to call him my family.
I have seen Shane help so many people over the years. I am praying that we can all rise up and help him in his time of need.
Thank you for any help you are able to give. The goal is to help cover expenses for the next few months and support them as they find a place to live and manage medical expenses. We will update this page as new changes occur.
Thank you so much for reading this, your support means the world to our family.
