Derek Berry

As some of you may know, Derek has RECENTLY been involved in a horrible two-car accident on March 17th 2023. He sustained a severe head injury and was placed in a medically induced coma for several days. The Doctor was afraid that Derek would not be able to sustain the oxygen levels needed for his brain to function. His blood pressure was falling drastically low and he was placed on a ventilator. It was touch and go for nearly a week. After several attempts, a tracheotomy was performed and the medical team was able to get him off the ventilator, out of the ER and off to weeks of occupational and physical therapy. As if this story wasn't devastating in and of itself, go back 26 years to where Derek was involved in a single car accident that left him a quadrapolgic at age 27. Having been Professional soccer player, coach and an all around amazing athlete. After the accident, Derek’s life dramatically changed. He battled extreme depression for years, but decided he was gonna change his life for the better. You can see a video attached of what Derek’s battles have been. Again, fast forward to about 7 weeks ago, to where Derek's head was being scraped across the 8 East freeway, while his service dog, Tonka, lay helpless after being thrown around the van. The damage to the Van was a complete loss and the same for his wheelchair. Thank God Tonka was more or less ok, and we have our Derek back at home trying to put the pieces back to his mechanically altered life. We were able to get him a new van, and hope to have a new wheelchair soon. But with all the medical expenses and the additional funds needed for the Van, Chair, and ongoing therapy.
