Defend Chukchansi Families from Disenrollment

HI-le Hi-le - My name is Jennifer (Jones) Ruiz and I am an enrolled Chukchansi tribal member, and Former Tribal Chairperson for Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians. In December of 2023, I was a witness at the disenrollment hearing for some of my relatives. The unfairness and lack of due process shocked me into the realization that our current tribal government and enrollment committee are following a disenrollment agenda and will not consider any evidence that does not fit their narrative. Hundreds of tribal members have been disenrolled since 2022 and it is my belief that none of them were valid. Several more families are currently being targeted with more anticipated to come. Although I have not been personally targeted (yet) I believe what is happening goes against tribal values and is destroying our tribe. ALL of the funds raised through this GoFundMe will go to covering legal costs for families that are being targeted for Chukchansi disenrollments. These families are losing their benefits, often prior to even receiving a hearing, and legal costs to help defend them can be quite high. The goal is to help defend the families being targeted (with legal services), secure a fair appeal for those unfairly disenrolled, and prevent future destruction of our tribe through paper genocide. We can not allow the story and history of our tribal families to be re-written for the profit of a few.
