Fund Raising for Our Shaheed Minar
For the first time ever in our Canadian history, a permanent Shaheed Minar is being built in Toronto at 80 Thyra Avenue, as a sign of respect for International Mother Language Day. This is very close to us - the people of Bangladesh, whether you identify as Bangladeshi Canadians and Canadian Bangladeshis. We have fought to secure the right to speak in our language, Bangla, and people have sacrificed their lives for it. No other nation to our knowledge has had to sacrifice their life for the right to speak in their mother tongue. Today, UN and world has adopted it as International Mother Language Day. As such, we consider International Mother Language Day is a gift of ours to the world. And therefore, we feel we must do everything we can to help build and nurture it.
Recently, it has been brought to our attention that there is a plea for raising funds as there is unfortunately a shortage. BCCB, being the largest Bangladeshi Canadian organization feels it is our duty and truly an honour to help such a noble cause meet their needs. While we believe the construction will not stall due to a shortage of funds, we recognize Shaheed Minar being all of ours, we must all try to pitch in the way we can.
Donation size - big OR small – does not matter. What matters is our intention and we know that is noble. Your $5, $10, $50, $100 or more can help reduce the burden of a few. We believe we must all own it and do our best, for our language martyrs, for our nation that we come from, for Canada that gave us a home, for all Bangladeshi Canadians and for the Canadian Bangladeshis.
100% of every dollar raised from this fund BCCB fund raising initiative will be contributed to the Shaheed Minar (minus any Go Fund Me fees collected by them).
Previously, we as a community we have come together and have helped raise fund for the devasting Fort McMurray forest fires, for the flood victims of Bangladesh and the Rohingya refugees. We have another opportunity to come together as a community.
And so here we are seeking your kind contribution, big or small, in helping this dream come to reality.
