Support Zach's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
On April 12, 2025, in Murray, Kentucky, Zach—a senior at Murray State University and a dedicated member of the university’s rifle team—was involved in a devastating motorcycle accident. Zach had spent his college years excelling both academically and athletically, earning multiple individual awards and contributing to the team’s collective achievements. Outside of school, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends, often making trips to Land Between the Lakes. His career goal was to become a US Marshal.
That day, Zach went for a ride on his motorcycle when an SUV ran a red light and hit him. The SUV not only struck Zach but also crossed the median and crashed into another vehicle, compounding the severity of the incident. The impact was catastrophic. Fortunately, Zach was wearing a helmet, which likely saved his life.
Due to the extent of his injuries, Zach was life-flighted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. There, he underwent multiple surgeries and spent two weeks in critical care, first in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), then in the Trauma Step-Down Unit. After stabilizing, he was transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility for an additional week to begin his long journey toward recovery.
Zach’s injuries were extensive and life-altering. He suffered a traumatic left leg amputation at the thigh, a splenectomy (removal of the spleen), a lacerated kidney, multiple facial fractures, numerous broken ribs, a dislocated elbow, two broken bones in his right arm, and severe road rash across his body.
Despite the overwhelming physical and emotional toll, Zach has remained incredibly focused and determined. He is now learning to navigate daily life with these challenges and is committed to continuing outpatient therapy as he prepares for a prosthetic limb. His recovery will involve ongoing doctor visits, extensive physical therapy, and immense personal perseverance.
We are raising funds to help cover the overwhelming medical costs, rehabilitation, prosthetic fitting, travel to appointments, and necessary accessibility modifications. Every donation, big or small, will directly support Zach’s healing and independence.
