CYS: TGM Fundraising for Maine Veterans Project

Hi! My name is Kira and I will be sleeping on dirt this summer!

Can You Survive is a Maine-based, multi-day charity competition that is inspired by the show, Survivor. I will be living in the elements with very few resources, competing in challenges and hopefully, voting my competition out so I can become the sole survivor. My eventual placement in the game will determine how much money will be donated to my charity. I selected Maine Veterans Project as my charity.

I chose MVP because their team helps Maine veterans through direct support programs, recreation and activities that reignite camaraderie. They need contributions to fund programs that provide essentials to disabled veterans; programs provide heating fuel, vehicles and other life-essential needs.

Additionally, it is important to acknowledge that 22 veterans and active duty service members commit suicide every day in the United States. Veterans make up just .045% of the total population, yet account for 20% of all suicides in the US. According to the CDC, "In 2020, 45,979 people died by suicide in the United States. That is 1 death every 11 minutes." I am personally familiar with one of those deaths... Not a day goes by that my thoughts are not with her and those who loved her.
