Crystal Caldwell's Covid Fund
Doação protegida
On August 31, 2021 my mom, Crystal Caldwell, tested positive for Covid-19.
Everyday after testing positive was a battle for my mom. She had every symptom listed. She turned to a local medical office for help. Once there, she qualified for the infusion and she took it with high hopes that it would speed the recovery time. The infusion helped but mom got to the point where she knew something was not right. She went back to the same clinic (Sep 9th) and they checked her oxygen levels, they were low at 65-70 percent. Her levels would not increase any higher with the resources they had available in that medical office. They called an ambulance and she was rushed to the North Mississippi Medical Center (the largest regional hospital in North Mississippi).
Once she was admitted to the NMMC, her critical conditioned worsened. The combination of being alone and the fight to get her body to a healthier state was aggressive and cruel. She fought for 2 days through multiple different masks and liters of oxygen. It was still not enough. Fast forward to September 12, 2021, my moms nurse face-timed my dad. During the duration of that last phone call, she gave consent to be placed on the ventilator.
It has been 14 days since she was medically sedated to induced coma and placed on the vent. They have tried four times now to wake her with failed attempts due to signs of vital distress. They will begin an even more aggressive process to wake her soon. They have informed the family she has been sedated and on a ventilator for longer than they wanted and they need her to fully wake to ascertain the extent of not only Covid but also the strain on her internal organs. Regardless the outcome or when she wakes, she will have a period of extensive recovery time. That will include inpatient therapy and after home care.
My dad has been the sole provider for the two of them for the last 4 years. He has not been able to work for the past month because he also had Covid. He wants to be by moms side during her recovery and all appointments. His heart is set on being her primary caretaker when she wakes, because we still hold out hope she will fully recover from her current condition. The only way this will be possible on the financial side is by having a little help. He is a very humble person and they live happily, yet meagerly, on a single income. He has never asked for a handout, and it took a lot of prayer and convincing that it is okay to ask for help when it is needed. This is not something either of them prepared for.
This fund will help to cover his income and a portion of the foreseeable medical expenses to come.
On behalf of our entire family, we appreciate anything that is offered during this difficult time.
