A DAY IN THE LIFE OF MICHAEL WATKINS
“There’s a star in every man and woman, and it takes chaos to create a star.”
- Michael Watkins
In November 2018, our friend the gifted artist "Mike Wagner" walked into an emergency room suffering from extreme shoulder pain caused by a spinal cyst. Days later he found himself in criminally negligent after-care, prone and immobile after a botched spinal surgery to which he never consented.
A year prior to that nightmarish hospital visit, Mike's mother was left paralyzed, hospitalized, and unable to work after a terrible accident. Mike was unable to make ends meet and they lost their home.
Now Tetraplegic and separated from his paraplegic mom, Mike owes hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical debt and is dependent upon the full-time care of nurses. In the midst of a global pandemic, Mike is particularly vulnerable, both physically and emotionally.
But Mike is a survivor and he is reaching out for more options and more advanced tools with which to participate in the world around him.
Please watch and share this video of a day in Mike's life; listen to the hope within him as he continues to defy the odds of survival. Mike needs our help paying bills and purchasing technology he relies on for simple everyday existence and meaningful expression. His wisdom and perspective are inspiring. Our support will immediately impact Mike's experience - alleviating him from debt, accessing the quality of specialized care he needs and facilitating an outlet for the creative, intellectual, and emotional life he has ahead of him. We hope to raise $300,000 to assist Mike in regaining his financial independence.
If you have resources to share in the form of goods or services, please email through this campaign.
Thank you for taking the time to view this and thank you in advance for anything you can do to help animate Mike's new life.
