Every day, individuals and families across North Wales are affected by addiction, poor mental wellbeing, social isolation and the lasting impact of trauma. Behind every statistic though is a person with strengths, talents, and potential, often waiting for the right opportunity, support and connection to bring those qualities to life.

That’s why we founded Atebion, a not-for-profit organisation, because we sincerely believe in the human capacity to overcome adversity.

We look at the life behind the label, recognising that addiction, homelessness, offending behaviour, unemployment and poor mental wellbeing are often connected to trauma, stress, disconnection, loss of direction and limited opportunity. By seeing the person first, we aim to reduce stigma, challenge harmful assumptions and create space for hope and positive change. Instead of reactive responses, we aim to get to the heart of what underpins addiction and poor mental health.

Many of those involved in Atebion have lived experience of addiction and recovery. Our belief in recovery and transformation comes not only from research and evidence, but from what we have seen, heard, witnessed and lived through ourselves. We know that people can achieve remarkable things when they are given the opportunity to recognise their strengths, build meaningful connections and realise their potential.
