Commemorating Jamel Oxley's Life & Legacy
Donazione protetta
Although this time of year is traditionally filled with holiday cheer, it is with great regret that we share the passing of Jamel Akeem Oxley. Jamel Oxley was a husband, a father, a son, a brother, and a friend to many beyond what most of us can comprehend. Jamel is survived by his wife, Sherene Oxley, his daughter, Melanie Oxley, and his son, Max Oxley. Jamel’s unforeseen death is nothing less than a tragedy in the lives of those who loved him most, and his loss will be felt for a lifetime. Although we can never replace who Jamel was to his family, the most important thing that we can do is honor him in the best way possible, but first, let’s talk about who Jamel Oxley was, the man within.
Jamel loved his family unconditionally, his wife often called him “an all-in-one package” because checking in on family and friends was just as important to him as being a good husband and father. A backbone to so many, Jamel is known for playing an active role in the lives of everyone who he touched. It was customary for Jamel to call his loved ones on a regular basis or go the extra mile of visiting them. His family remembers him by his composed demeanor, rarely stressing over the little things and providing wisdom and a level perspective in times of chaos. A joy to everyone in his life, Jamel had a bright light inside of him that touched people of every age, race, and creed. It is so uncommon to know someone who is so easily able to bring the best out of people and so quickly become someone who they can depend and rely on.
The most hurtful thing about losing Jamel is the way that he died. Jamel went to the hospital for what most would consider a minor surgery. He suffered from a condition called Conn's syndrome (primary aldosteronism), which caused his high blood pressure and low potassium levels. Jamel underwent a procedure called an adrenalectomy to cure him, as the condition caused him to urinate frequently and gave him consistent headaches. Jamel went into the hospital on December 21, 2021 to be monitored overnight for surgery the next day. It was heartrending to hear that he had passed away during the surgery after his family and friends had spoken to him throughout the night.
So many of you have wanted to support Jamel's family financially, but we needed an organized way of doing it. This GoFundMe is dedicated to Jamel’s memorial service, legal fees, support for his wife and kids, and all their immediate needs during this time. Since you landed here, we know that you have a relationship with Jamel, and that you want to provide some form of support. Anything counts, and all is appreciated.
Thank you.
