Cliona's Wave: A New Musical Fundraiser

Hello! My name is Ethan Bintu-Watt, and I am the founder of Thorn & Ivy Theatre alongside my friends and colleagues Katie Moran, and Ocean Pettigrew. This summer at the Edmonton Fringe Festival we are excited to debut our company’s first production: Cliona’s Wave, an original musical written by me, chronicling tales of Irish folklore through a mixture of original compositions and traditional Irish ballads. We are currently pursuing our BFA in Music Theatre Performance at MacEwan University, and this production marks a significant milestone as we take our first steps into the professional theatre world. While Edmonton has a vibrant theatre community, alongside it comes many expenses. Production fees, rehearsal and venue costs, and cast and crew salaries rapidly add up. By donating, you would not only be funding the continuation of the annual Edmonton Fringe Festival, but also supporting the growth of emerging local theatre artists.

Registration fee for the festival. This cost is found directly on the Edmonton Fringe website.

Venue Rental Fee – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – 1,500.00$

This cost is found from a negotiated and agreed deal between the venue (Nancy Power Theatre) and the artist(s). The fee includes the full venue rental, one full tech day, and one technician.

Band Fee – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – 600.00$

This cost is based upon each band member (8) being awarded a 50$ honorarium flat rate for their work, as well as a portion TBD of ticket sales received during the run of the production.

Set Construction – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – 350.00$

This fee includes labour costs (by way of honorariums for volunteer work), as well as costs of all materials included in set construction (wood, paint, nails/screws, etc). This cost is an estimation based on other Fringe Festival shows, and the current prices of items in question.

Props/Costumes – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –350.00$

In addition, to set construction, the prop/costume budget covers the additional materials for the show, such as the fabrics and materials for the costumes themselves, the props used in the show, and labour costs (by way of honorariums for volunteer work). This is also reached based on an estimation of other Fringe Festival shows, and the current prices of items in question.

This cost includes materials related to advertising, such as poster printing, a spot on the EFF brochure, and a fund to assist in advertising events such as local cabarets, bottle drives, etc.
