Beloved Friends, Family, and Community,
My name is Anthony Darway.
It is with heavy hearts that we at Acre-Reading share the passing of our brother, Emeka—a tireless advocate, a beacon of hope, and a poet whose words ignited resilience in countless lives within our community and beyond. After years of courageously battling disability, mental health challenges, and chronic illness, Emeka left us peacefully this February 2025. Though his fight has ended, his light continues to guide us.
Emeka was more than a brother; he was a warrior for justice. As a youth mentor, disability activist, and gifted writer who turned his struggles into strength, sharing raw, powerful testimonies through poems that gave voice to the voiceless. His endeavour bridged gaps in our community, fostering inclusion and reminding us that even in darkness, hope persists.
Yet behind his public courage lay private battles. Emeka faced depression, anxiety, and relentless health setbacks with unwavering dignity. He carried these burdens quietly, channeling his pain into purpose. Now, as we prepare to lay him to rest, we ask for your support to honor his legacy with the grace he deserves.
Why We Need Your Help:
Funeral expenses, memorial arrangements, and related costs have placed an unexpected strain on Emeka’s family, taking into consideration our current economic situation. For this reasons, we strive as community to give him a service that reflects his profound impact—a celebration of his life, his art, and the people he uplifted. Your contribution, no matter the size, will ensure:
- A dignified farewell ceremony.
- Support for his grieving family.
- A lasting memorial project to continue his work in youth and disability advocacy.
How You Can Help:
- Donate: Every gift, big or small, eases the financial burden.
- Share: Spread this message to amplify Emeka’s story.
- Remember: To carry forward his mission of empathy and inclusion.
Emeka once wrote, “Our scars are not weaknesses—they are maps of survival.” Let us honour his journey by standing together, as he always did for others.
