Christy's legacy of hope

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Lindsey Crochet, I am the youngest sister of Christine, or Christy Crochet.

I am here to share a small part of my sister's story in hopes of paving a bright path for her daughters and to shine light on her legacy.

My sister struggled with mental illness her whole life. After so many years battling her illness and struggling with trauma, we lost Christy this April. She is survived by her two daughters Cami (8) and Madison (14), her mother Sharon, and her three sisters Kathy, Shanna, and me, as well as countless friends, allies and wonderful humans that she connected deeply with along the way. Christy had a way of shining like a diamond on all those she encountered. She had a heart of gold. She was generous with her first and last penny. We remember her as the most compassionate, loving, radiant beauty we’ve ever known.  Her incredible gift of chameleon spirit gave her the ability to connect with just about anyone on earth, but also the ability to hide what she was going through internally. She tried in so many endless ways to accept healing and heal herself and wanted so much for her daughters to have opportunities to grow and thrive in ways she didn’t. They meant everything to her. She was not able to be close with either of her daughters these last few years, but what she cared most about was that they know she loved them so much. We want to help show these girls how much love, support and opportunity they have.

For my sister, and for my family, asking for help has always been so hard and triggering and so I am asking for help for her, for her daughters, and for the rest of us trying to navigate this tragedy. I want Cami and Madison to have access to the resources their momma wanted for them, now and in the future.

Between helping my mother Sharon raise Cami and my sister Christy battle mental illness these last few years, my sisters and myself need some help to tackle this next hurdle. My mother just received the news that her and Cami will need to vacate their beloved home on very short notice.  My mom and family developed the space from an uncleared track of land into a home with septic, water, electric and after years of mom's green thumb; a yard, and an outdoor paradise for Cami to thrive in. This spring we hauled yards of soil to redo her food garden and flower garden and built fences to keep the ranch animals out. Every gift and effort of all of us sisters and family has gone into my mothers nest to help them thrive there. Cami just made a memorial to Christy in the yard a few weeks ago with a gift from her grand aunt and birds moved into her birdhouse, laid eggs, and the babies are here now. She is devastated to leave. She feels she is losing so much right now and so we are all saddened to see this big change at this time even as we look forward to a new chapter’s blessings. Part of the funds raised will be used to help Cami and Sharon with their moving expenses and to start a new chapter for them both.

May is Mental Illness Awareness Month and I want to bring awareness to the fact that unfortunately so often the weight of the world seems to fall on the shoulders of the few. Community can come together and keep it all from falling on one person or one family when it’s too little too late. I worked tirelessly to navigate the publicly funded system for my sister to get help and time and time again the system failed her and all of us. We need help that helps, as Christy would say.  My family has a history of life threatening mental illness and I want to give my best shot at breaking the cycle here and now for this family. Also, below are some resources listed if you can't contribute financially, that is so understandable. There are some free educational resources that can help you better understand mental illness.  Consider involving yourself in another way in your community for others battling mental illness and for christy’s legacy of hope.   #youarenotalone

Im asking for financial help for;

-Cami and Madi to have access to therapy
 and to psychiatric resources for time to come
-Cami to have access to an educational format that encourages her unique and blossoming nature
-Counseling for the family
-A commemoration of christy in the form of a tree or garden, per her wishes
-My mom and Cami's moving expenses and a little something to start a new chapter for them both.
-An amount will go towards reimbursing my mom for the cost of cremation
