Christian's Courageous Combat

Hello! My name is Christian Moon. I am 29 years old and I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colorectal Cancer last year.

One week after getting married and returning from my honeymoon, I noticed something was not right.  I made a doctors appointment to get checked out and at first doctors didn't know what was causing me to feel sick.  After several doctors appointments and many medical procedures I received the devastating news that I have cancer.

After being treated for irritable bowel syndrome and gastrointestinal issues, I went back to see my doctor because I still wasn't feeling well and my symptoms were getting worse.  My doctor then suggested a colonoscopy as he continued different treatment plans and procedures to figure out what was wrong with me.

The day I was diagnosed is a day I will never forget.  This was suppose to be the happiest time of my life.  I had just married my best friend.  But, on Thursday, December 19, 2019, my life was changed forever.  All my life plans were placed on hold.  During my colonoscopy a huge lesion was discovered in my rectum.

The findings not only stunned me and my wife, but the doctors were shocked too. Especially considering that I don't have a family history of colorectal cancer, and I was considered otherwise healthy. If you know anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer, you know that life changes very quickly.  Everything becomes a blur. Having cancer involves many doctors visits, many blood draws, and even more imaging scans, along with chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, and other treatments.

I have been undergoing these treatments since January of 2020.  Everything was going really well and my body responded favorably to treatment.  I was gearing up for surgery, which was planned for sometime in September of 2020.  Then a pre-surgical MRI scan revealed some unexpected findings. The cancer had grown in a new area in my pelvis and this halted all plans for surgery. My doctors referred me to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. They specialize in cases like mine and are best equipped to properly handle rare situations like the one I'm facing.  They have special equipment that other hospitals in Michigan and nearby surrounding states don't have.

Going to the Mayo Clinic will give me the best chance for a successful surgery that will save my life.   I have just a few more treatments and then my doctors will evaluate my progress before surgery is scheduled later this year.  With this life-saving plan to travel to Minnesota, my wife and I will incur unexpected travel and medical expenses.  We are in need of financial assistance because we reside in Michigan and will need to temporarily relocate to Minnesota so I can receive continued medical care, have a successful surgery and fully recover before returning home to Michigan.

Throughout my entire diagnosis I have continued to work full time but, for a short while as I courageously fight this battle, it will be difficult for me to provide for myself and my family, which includes my beautiful, devoted, wife and our fur baby, Nikko.

All financial donations will be used to pay for medical bills and travel expenses, which includes flights to and from Minnesota, lodging, food, and transportation services.  Battling cancer has truly been a difficult journey but, I have so much to live for and I am determined to fight this battle.

Any financial assistance will be greatly appreciated.  I am so grateful for your love, support, kind words of encouragement and prayers.  God bless you and thank you!
