The Last Duck Hunt--Angels Together in Heaven
Chris Ruckman and his two friends, Spencer Hall and Sterett Burk loved to duck hunt. On Friday, January 6, 2017, they went on what became their last hunt. The young men left in their boat around 4:00 am with two of their dogs heading toward Redfish Bay near Port Lavaca, Texas. When the boys didn't make it home, the US Coast Guard was notified. The Coast Guard, along with other authorities and volunteers, searched throughout the night and into the next day. Eventually, all three and one of their dogs were found on Matagorda Island about 10 miles from where they had hunted.
We will never know exactly what happened, but we think that some time after they left, their boat capsized. The weather had turned bad that morning and it was a cold day for south Texas. All three had their life jackets on, but being in the cold water, we surmise that the boys, and the dogs, succumbed to hypothermia. Here is one of the news stories that covered this tragic accident.

Chris Ruckman was only 18 and had just graduated from high school last May. He was preparing to go into the U.S. Navy and was excited about serving his country and starting a career. Chris is my great-nephew--my niece, Teresa Trygstad Ruckman and her husband Steve's son. He was one of six children and loved by all who knew him. He leaves behind his brothers Jake, Sammy, J.R., and Timothy, and a sister, Elizabeth Honeycutt.

Chris's death has devastated the family and it has also put a great financial strain on the family to cover his funeral costs. We are asking for help to cover the funeral expenses. If you are able to give any amount, it is greatly appreciated. Funds will be accepted any time, but the funeral is this coming week.
My sister, Diane and I will be in charge of the funds to pay for the funeral. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us.
Thank you for reading this and for any help you can offer to the family to cover the funeral expenses.
