ChikaLicious Dessert Bar’s cooks, porters & waitstaff are the lifeblood of our restaurant & catering operations.
Though heartbroken to do so, at the behest of New York State, we closed Dessert Bar and ceased catering operations to ensure public safety and allow our staff to take care of themselves and their families.
God willing, we'll be back, but in the meantime, our team has been out of work since Sunday, March 15. Unemployment benefits for our staff do not amount to anything close to a living wage: Though we’ve pivoted to a 100% takeaway posture via grubhub, yelp eats and caviar, these cursory sales require months to takeoff, use minimal staff only; and are well below a level adequate enough to sustain operations.
We have been so moved by how many of you, our customers and friends, have asked what you can do to help us. And this is it--donate what you can to support our staff financially through this crisis.
100% of funds will be used for staff and maintenance of health insurance coverage. We realize that many of you, too, may be affected by these extreme events, so it is with added humility that we reach out.
We'll invite donors to our reopening “dessert with benefits” party (date TBD).
