Help Charleston Underwater Rugby win a Nat’l Title

You know at least one of us personally and we need your support to compete in the National Underwater Torpedo League (UTL) NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!! Have you ever wanted to be a part of a national title? Well, this is your chance...

We are 12 swimmers, forming The Citadel's own "Charleston Guapos" who competed for the first time last year in 2024 and came in third their first time out. Well, we're back, we're better prepared and we are hungry to win the tournament on June 7 & 8, 2025 in Costa Mesa (L.A. County), California.

We are 2 current Citadel cadets - Chris Sulier (future Navy) and Jackson Stembridge (engineering); 3 recent Citadel graduates - Future fighter pilot 2ndLt Rick Quinteiro (USAF), future medical doctor Dr. Aquilla Turk (MUSC), 2ndLt L. J. (USAF); and 7 Citadel-adjacent (older and wiser) Guapos: Jose Caride, Jeremy Todd, Ted Fienning, Chris M, Chris Emde, Matt MacDonnel, and 2025 team captain Erik Flegal. 

We've been swimming, training, and competing against one another for years and years, now we're taking our brawler-forward style to California to show them how it's done underwater!

We want your support, financially and otherwise, for our journey from Charleston to the national championships. We are raising $12,000 to defray the following team expenses for 12 people:

Tournament Entry Fee: $1350

Airfare to Los Angeles: $5,400

AirBnB/Lodging: $4,000 (it's L.A.! We are cramming into AirBnBs near the tournament.)

Groceries/Snacks/Electrolytes: $700

Swim Uniforms (Jammers): $500
