Support Mary and Liv's Road to Recovery

Hi everyone, my name is Karen, thank you for taking time to read my family’s story.
My sister MarySue (Mary) was in a life altering car wreck with her best friend Olivia (Liv), Wednesday June 12th at 4:47pm. They were on 9 in Pendleton, Indiana.
Liv was driving them home from spending a vacation week in Michigan with family.
There was a garbage truck coming the opposite way with a line of cars behind it. It came to a sudden stop, causing the line of cars behind to slam on their breaks. When doing this an SUV lost control and swerved into the opposite oncoming lane hitting Mary and Liv head on.
They are both only 24 years young, and this accident will sadly affect the rest of their lives.
Mary was in the passenger seat. She broke her left femur in half, has two fractured vertebra, a fractured sternum, 8 broken ribs, and a broken shoulder blade. Mary was in the ER for around 20 hours with her broken femur before she was taken into surgery. Thankfully her surgery went well with no complications. They put a rod into her left femur. She is covered in cuts and bruises, as well as bruising and tearing from the seatbelt that thankfully saved her life. She is expected to heal, but it will be a long and painful journey. The doctor said when she’s sent home she is going to need 24/7 care.
Liv was driving. She has ended up with a broken back in two places as well as a shattered ankle and a compound fracture near her foot, bone coming out. Her surgery did not go as well as the doctors hoped today, and she is scheduled for another surgery that will hopefully have the desired results. The hospital staff is preparing her family for Liv to not be able to walk normally again. With the nature of her injuries risk of infection is high. We are hoping her recovery goes smooth but the doctors are making sure we know all possibilities.
We dont know yet when they will be getting out of the hospital or what their healing journeys will look like, but they will both need caretakers for some time while recovering.
They are overwhelmed by the love and support of all their families and friends they’ve received so far.
On their behalf I am searching for some more support from the community.
Their healing process will be long and hard, they will both be unable to work for the next few months. Due to the nature of their injuries they will both be relearning how to live in their bodies and adjusting to normal life for some time.
I am hopeful that the financial burden of this will be the least of their worries and they can put their full energy into just getting better. It is a miracle that they are both alive and they know how lucky they are.
Anything little thing can and will help. If you’re unable to donate, please send all your thoughts, prayers and love to these two wonderfully strong women. Them and their families need all of the support ❤️ Thank you everyone.
