I've worked with Cathy for 20 years.
She is possibly the greatest server the American restaurant industry has ever seen.
She's quick on her feet, quick witted, hard working, kind, and generous. Some of you know her as the feisty lady who works the front section at Lox, Stock, and Bagel. Many regulars will wait in line until a table in her section opens up. Partly because they know their tea will stay filled and their complex orders will come out just right. Partly because she can talk professional and college sports like she was a professional analyst. (I won my fantasy football league one year because of the draft picks she recommended.)
For many years all of my coworkers and I would get a homemade birthday cake from her on our birthdays.
For over 20 years Cathy has been the best server at LS&B, out-pacing men and women a third her age. There are regulars at that deli whose order is put in before they walk in the door because Cathy caught sight of them getting out of their car in the parking lot.
Recently Cathy took a fall and broke her knee and a few of her teeth.
While Cathy's greatest assets, in my opinion, are her sharp wits, her motherly care, and her unparalleled work ethic, the fact is Cathy makes her living on her feet.
She's been out of work for over a month now while recovering. She is hoping to return to work next week, but her medical bills have piled up and two years ago her rent doubled, and being out of work all this time has put her in a financial hole. While she has always been charitable and generous herself, she's not one to easily accept it.
She would never, ever ask for help so I'm doing it for her.
If you can spare anything at all please help Cathy to get back on her feet (Financially, I mean. She's working hard to get back on her feet physically.)
You will be helping a truly brilliant, kind, and dedicated worker that I personally love dearly.
