Carter Harrington

Doação protegida
Carter Thomas came into this world 2 weeks early on June 2nd!  His delivery at Heywood Hospital was uncomplicated and everyone was instantly in love. Throughout the day Carter was working hard to breath and needed more support than our community hospital had available. He was transferred to UMass Hospital to get him all the care he needed.  It was found that a bacterial lung infection had spread to his blood and was causing Carter to have difficulty breathing so his body needed extra support to fight. He was started on multiple antibiotics, machines to help him breath and given fluids so he didn't have to worry about eating. After just 20 hrs, the decision was made that even UMass did not have the support Carter needed. He was then transported to Boston Children's Hospital to be with the best in the world with the highest level equipment. He was working hard to fight this infection while his body had support from machines to keep him strong. On June 4th he had an ultrasound to assess for bleeding in his brain and unfortunately it did show a brain bleed.  After getting this news, Michelle and Sean, along with their mothers, were told the worst news any parent could receive. They said their goodbyes last night. Carter is now an angel among us.

This account was originally created to help with costs of traveling back and forth from home (in Templeton, MA) to Boston, staying in the city, worrying about meals and taking care of their sweet girl Harper at home.  However, with the news of his passing, these funds will also support a burial/memorial for him.  Any donations you can give would be greatly appreciated.

We are asking that you respect the family's wishes to have time and space to grieve this loss.  We will post any burial/memorial updates when they are known.  Starting today, June 5th, we are also asking family & friends to wear a ribbon (any color) in honor of Carter.

"If you know someone who has lost a child and you're afraid to mention them because you think you might make them sad by reminding them that they died, they didn't forget they died. You're not reminding them. What you're reminding them of is that you remember they lived.  And that is a great, great gift." -Elizabeth Edwards
