Bring hope & quality of life back to despairing father

Hi, my name is Vicky, and together with my siblings I am fundraising for my dad to receive life-changing treatment for Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Our dad was diagnosed with MS in 2013 at the age of 50. Despite living with constant pain, fatigue, and worsening mobility issues, he has spent the last decade continuing to work tirelessly to support our family. Even as his condition progressed, he worked seven days a week because providing for his family has always been one of the most important things in his life.

Before MS, he loved going to watch football, cycling, walking with family and friends, and going on active family holidays. He also had a passion for motorbikes, especially his Ducati Supersport. Over time, MS has slowly taken those things away from him.

The hardest part for us to witness has been seeing such a hardworking, independent, family-oriented man lose not only his mobility, but also parts of the life he loved. As his physical health has declined, his mental health has suffered too.

Recently, things became even more difficult after he suffered a devastating fall at work caused by his worsening mobility. He broke his neck and back and spent four months in hospital wearing a full neck brace 24 hours a day. After being discharged from hospital, he then faced months of recovery at home, including ongoing physiotherapy and having to wear a soft neck brace daily, all while trying to rebuild his strength, mobility, and independence. His MS significantly slowed his recovery, but even after everything he has been through, he returned to work as soon as he physically could because he was worried about supporting his family.

During this recovery period, he also had to undergo emergency appendix surgery, adding even more pain, stress, and recovery time. He continues to live with severe daily pain while facing the fear of losing both his independence and ability to provide for the people he loves.

Over the last few years, he has spent countless hours researching treatments that could help slow the progression of his MS and improve his quality of life. For the first time in a long time, Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) has given him genuine hope.

HSCT is a specialist treatment designed to “reset” the immune system, with the aim of stopping it from attacking the body. While it is not a guaranteed cure, it has helped many people with autoimmune diseases such as MS by slowing or halting disease progression.

As a family, we want the chance to see our dad enjoy life again — to smile more, suffer less, and regain some independence and hope for the future.

Unfortunately, this treatment is extremely expensive and is not readily available to us through the NHS. We are trying to raise enough money to give our dad the opportunity to access this treatment in the UK or abroad as soon as possible.

Any donation, no matter how small, would mean more to our family than words can express. If you are unable to donate, simply sharing this page would also help us enormously.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting our dad in his fight against MS.
