Cherie was diagnosed with a rare thyroid cancer called Hurthle Cell Carcionma nearly 2 years ago. Hurthle cell thyroid cancer is usually classified as a type of follicular thyroid cancer, although it is really a distinct kind of tumor because it grows more aggressively, making up only about 3% to 5% of all types of thyroid cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. Although follicular cancer rarely spreads to lymph nodes, Hurthle cell thyroid cancer is more often diagnosed after invading the lymph nodes in the neck in about 25% of patients. In addition, Hurthle cell thyroid cancer may spread to the lung or bones. Cherie underwent a full removal of her thyroid and two rounds of radioactive iodine treatments. The Dr. was happy with the treatment and she was put on Thyrogen medication to take permanently. Fast forward to her annual check up this year and the Dr. spotted something he was uncomfortable with and told her she will need another round of iodine treatments immediately. They have yet to say how far its spread so hopefully the treatment finishes the cancer off. This particular treatment is not cheap even though she has insurance their family deductible is around $7,000, which they havent met yet. Add in that she recently returned to work, their family will be back down to a single income while she undergoes more treatments. Also the iodine treatments are radioactive treatments which means she has to be quarantined from her family leaving Charlie to need to take time off work to care for the kids. Which eliminates another income during that time. The hope is the cancer hasn't spread through her lymph nodes, which if it did will create an even bigger issue This is a family that has done more for me than I can even explain. Mix that with all the years they've selflessly taught many low income and at risk kids for free never asking for anything more than for you to just make it to class and you have the definition of a selfless servant. I want to make sure we do our best to help the Clingan family just as they've helped so many in their times of need. Whether it's been Grandmaster Clingan, Charlie or any of the family this is our opportunity to help them in their time of need. That family has been through a lot of losses the last few years but still have always been there for others, even now in their time of need they wouldn't dare ask for help even though I know they really need it at this point, which is why I feel it's my duty as a friend to do it for them. The goal is $10,000 to help with the deductible and any unforeseen bill's that may pop up due to this issue. Anything left over from treatments, after care and the deductible will be donated to a charity of the family's choice....
