G’Day All
Many of you will remember that in 2019 I set up a fundraiser on FB for my reprobate brother Brian.
Anyway since then he has continued to sit on his arse and actually wear out the carpet in his flat in London.
As Brian explains:
“I am incredibly lucky and grateful to have my council flat. The last 4 years had been very tough for me. After 25 years in a chair my body has definitely started creaking – for the first time in my life I have really started understanding how debilitating chronic pain can be. And then the pandemic meant that an op I had been waiting for ages already was delayed by the thick end of 2 years. The delay meant that I develop additional complication, so when I eventually did have the op, I had to have another one in pretty quick succession. The combination of health complications meant that I had to give up work which was a massive blow psychologically. So, my flat went from “sanctuary” to “slammer” as the walls closed in. And the combination of lack of energy and loss of income has meant that the place is now in need of a proper refresh. I am making progress (I had a week away in the countryside recently which was the first time in over 4 years that I spent a night in a bed that was neither in my flat nor in a hospital!). But I’m hoping that getting a refurb done on the flat will be another brick on the bridge I’m building to having “a life” again.”
So now we all have to dip into our pockets to make his life better. As if we are not all struggling with “Costa Living” that devil who sneaks up on us every day and fleeces us for real money. I believe Costa is a relative of Gideon Gono the architect of “let’s inflate the Zimdollar so that Robert gets as much money as possible”.
Ok so enough of the preamble. All of this is designed to explain that Brian (occasionally referred to as BOSH by people who used to think he’s a kenge guy) now needs to dip into your pockets again because he’s got the same amount of money as the garbage collectors in Hip-Hip-Harare who knock on your door every Christmas and ask for their CHRISTMAS BOX.
In Brian’s case he needs at least £6,000 to replace the carpets and paint the walls. £6,000 ???? I hear you say ? Well yes – he wants £3,000 to pay the interior decorator (tradie as we say in Aus) and £3,000 so that he can go on holiday while the work is being done.
So what do we need to do ?
a) Pass this on to anyone other than yourself who you think will gullible enough to open their wallet (that way you won't have to yourself)
b) Keep an eye on this page just in case he tries to run for US President in November (yes, I know they don’t accept Zimbabweans for president but he is a dodgy character.)
c) As I observed last time around I’m figuring that if everyone who has had the misfortune of actually being friends with Brian at some stage stumped up £10 we would be able to raise about £150, and if the rest of you feel sorry enough for me we might be able to raise the rest.
What else can I say ? Send your money….
For clarity let’s remember the questionable gratitude that Brian expressed last time around: “my brother (who he previously described as being from the cultural wastelands of Australia) suggested this Facebook fundraiser exercise I really did think that the Antipodean Sun had eventually gotten to his Bogtrotter bain!” So that’s the gratitude I can expect.
To be fair he also said “As a Scatterling of Africa it is all too easy to feel a sense of isolation for on foreign shores. But at moments like these that geographic separation does nothing to diminish both old and new communities.”
