For those of you who don't know about Bob Neilly's journey thus far, here is a little history....
On January 6, 2022 Bob was taken into Southlake Hospital for what they thought was a side effect of his booster shot. After a CT scan and an MRI , Bob received the news that he had a brain tumor. He was quickly referred to Saint Michael’s Hospital where he saw a team of neurosurgeons and they informed him that he would need emergency brain surgery. After multiple days of testing, Bob had brain surgery on January 13, 2022 at Saint Michaels Hospital in Toronto. On January 18, 2022 he was able discharged from the hospital and his family was told that he had Expressive Aphasia. Expressive Aphasia is characterized by partial loss of the ability to produce language (spoken, manual, or written), although comprehension generally remains intact. He also had a new set of hardware on his head, 35 staples! Bob spent the next week at home recovering while awaiting the biopsy from the part of the tumor they had removed. On January 27, Bob attended his family doctor, where he received the news that he had a Glioblastoma Brain Tumor and it was terminal. The next few weeks were spent back-and-forth between meeting his oncology team and sorting out his healthcare plan. In order to keep his spirits up, his family asked him to make a bucket list of things he wanted to do! He was told that if he did the treatment, he would likely have 10 to 12 months, however, if he did not do the treatment, he would only have 2 to 3 months, but it would also depend on how the tumor reacted to the chemotherapy and radiation. On February 11, 2022 Bob started his chemo and radiation journey. He did 21 straight days of treatment and finished on March 4, 2022. His oncology team told him and his family that he would have a six week break and then an MRI to see if the chemo and radiation was able to penetrate the tumor. As a family, they have decided to take him on his bucket list trip, while awaiting his results, as time is of the essence! Bob is currently on his Bucket List Trip. The trip includes flying to California and driving the PCH highway from Newport Beach to San Diego, then renting an RV to drive from da Diego to Las Vegas to see the Grand Canyon. The RV will then head to Scottsdale, Arizona for a couple days of golf. After that it’s a quick flight over to New Orleans to experience some “real Cajunfood"! The last stop will be 6 days in the Bahamas, at the Atlantis resort.
Let's show him some love to continue to add to his Bucket List!
