My name is Jake Schlanger. I am excited to have the opportunity to help Pond Springs Elementary through my Eagle Scout project. This project will enable the school to expand a program for agriculture, business, and nutrition and you can help by donating today.
I began attending the school in second grade and continued there until fifth grade. My going there opened a great many opportunities that I may not have otherwise had. One of these opportunities was to explore my interests via a school-wide program called SWEET Fridays. Sweet Fridays offer students the opportunity to explore things like gardening and science among other things. This program started when I was in second grade and allowed me to build things from duct tape, grow crystals, and make a restaurant. Ever since then I’ve wanted to give back to the school, and the community.
I now have that opportunity as I work on earning the rank of Eagle Scout. As part of the rank, I must complete a service project that benefits the community. A couple of years ago Pond Springs bought a greenhouse to use in their SWEET Fridays gardening course. Over time, however, the greenhouse has become the victim of vandalism and harsh weather. The greenhouse has slowly become overgrown and dilapidated, eventually becoming impossible to use.
To solve these problems, I will buy a new greenhouse and install new shelving units to maximize the efficiency of the greenhouse. With all these improvements to the greenhouse, great changes can be enabled. From planting the first seeds in the greenhouse to selling seedlings to biting into fresh fruit, kids will be able to learn about gardening, agriculture, business, and nutrition. Before any of this can happen though, funds must be raised. This is where you come in. Just by donating a couple of dollars to the project you can propel this project forward and bring new opportunities to the students of Pond Springs Elementary. I appreciate any amount of money that you can spare so please don’t hesitate to donate. Together, we can build a greenhouse for the students at Pond Springs Elementary.
