"Jerome's Journey"
Jerome was diagnosed with ataxia-telangiecctasia (A-T). A-T is a rare, neurodegenerative, recessive genetic disease that causes progressive loss of muscle control, immune system problems and a high rate of cancer. Jerome is wheelchair bound and requires a personal care assistant. Jerome receives physical therapy and speech/language therapy to help address his needs.
Jerome's father is currently on disability due to medical issues and his mother was forced to give up her job to care for both Jerome and her husband. Jerome also has a younger brother.
Jerome just entered middle school this year and in September was voted "Student of the Month" by the faculty. Jerome always has a smile on his face is loved by both faculty and students. Jerome is a positive role model to us all and continues to show us that anything is possible.
Jerome's family is amazing and they do not look for pity or sorrow from others. However, the financial burdens that they are facing are overwhelming. Their bills are mounting and the family is unable to keep up and the consequences are life altering.
Jerome has touched not only the lives of the faculty, but has won over the hearts of his classmates. Jerome's love for life is truly an inspiration and reminds us all that life is precious and we need to make the most of every day. Please help Jerome and his family make the most of his journey.
