Benefit for Deborah Cope
Donation protected
This fundraiser has been set up to alleviate the cost of care, transportation, basic needs, and the beginnings of a travel fund for Deborah Cope as she undergoes the biggest battle of her life: treatment of a Grade IV Glioblastoma brain tumor.
If you had asked my mom three months ago what direction her life was taking, this certainly wouldn't have been the answer. She would have told you about her plans to move abroad for a few years, in the Italian countryside; or helping me to raise her future grandchildren, or to start an animal sanctuary in her retirement. But the reality of a quickly progressing brain tumor has changed those plans.
Prognosis was given as 9-12 months to live when she underwent brain surgery a month ago. Due to the nature of the tumor, and it's nasty little tendrils, the surgeon could not get it all.
We refuse to accept that, and will fight to the end to ensure the highest quality of life and experiences that the world has to offer, while undergoing any treatments we can find. Not only is she undergoing chemo (42 days initially, and then 5 days a month for 6-8 months) and radiation (6 weeks, five days a week); we are also exploring holistic and naturopathic options, diet and exercise modifications, and the Optune cap (tumor treating fields) to extend her life expectancy (FDA approved, and super cool!).
Because of all of this, Debi is not allowed to drive or work and will be moving in with me, her daughter Maya, to help alleviate care and costs, as well as to enjoy her time with her family and her granddogs. The two of us have decided that we are determined to make a big “hurrah” trip happen for us to enjoy some time away from the cancer life, and finally get to travel abroad together for the first time! Here's hoping that Italy or Scotland will let us in! :)
Thank you, our wonderfully supportive community, for helping us through this. We really could not do it without your love and encouragement. I know that my mom feels your radiant love and energy every day as she stands up to fight this tumor.
Oh, and FUCK CANCER.
Cheers,
