Beat BRCA2 odds , a fundraiser for Mae Phillips
Donazione protetta
Mae Phillips recently found out she has a mutation on her BRCA2 gene. The BRCA gene test is offered to those who are likely to have an inherited mutation based on personal or family history of breast cancer or ovarian cancer.
Mae tested positive. In an instant Mae realized her chances of developing breast cancer had skyrocketed. Mae is no longer a woman with average risks. Mae has two choices; she can wait for cancer or she can take action.
Mae is choosing action. Mae will have a Risk Reducing Bilateral Mastectomy followed by a Breast Reconstruction. Having a double mastectomy reduced Mae's odds for breast cancer significantly however she is not in the clear. Having BRCA2 means lifelong monitoring. Mae is likely to develop cancer multiple times in her life and is at a greater risk of developing Ovarian Cancer, Melanoma and Pancreatic cancer. Her battle is just beginning.
Mae's most recent MRI came back abnormal. A biopsy will be done. The cancer that Mae is trying to eliminate with the double mastectomy may already be in her body.
The money we raise here will immediately help pay for Mae's medical bills. Mae's procedure is partially covered by her insurance but she will need more money. Her independant life will be on pause for six weeks. A donation will support her mortgage, her physical and mental wellbeing, as well as her basic necessities. This journey for Mae has struck suddenly and her need is urgent. The threat and fear of cancer and treatments will not go away after this surgery. BRCA2 is a mutation that will be in Mae's body forever. The money we raise for her will a life long gift.
