Save Knickerbocker Village in Chinatown LES
Donazione protetta
For generations, many of us have lived at Knickerbocker Village (KV) in Chinatown. Our community comprises seniors and diverse groups of low and moderate-income people. WE ARE students, seniors, teachers, artists, front line workers, children . . . people who bring life to this city. As one of the oldest low-income housing developments in NYC, KV is the anchor of the Chinatown and Lower East Side working-class immigrant community. We are now being threatened by real estate speculation and luxury development promoted by the City and State government. WE ARE grassroots organizers here to preserve KV as a permanently affordable development
Over the decades, owners have tried privatizing our homes to go market rate. During the pandemic's start, L+M Developers worked on a back door deal to sell our homes. L+M is NYC's top evictor. They plan to change the laws that have kept our homes affordable for decades. You will be helping to save 1590 apartments and helping to reverse current efforts to displace residents, workers, and small businesses in the Chinatown/Lower East Side community. Since 1934 KV has been an anchor for low and moderate-income tenants. We were here during 9/11. We survived SuperStorm Sandy, which devastated our buildings. Now during the pandemic - We are still here to help rebuild our community. Through all of this, KV residents are committed to fighting for our homes because many KV families have called KV home for generations.
WE NEED YOUR HELP PAYING THE LEGAL FEES TO HELP KEEP KV AFFORDABLE AS IT WAS INTENDED. WE WILL use our COLLECTIVE strengths to SAVE OUR HOMES AND HELP FIGHT BILLIONAIRE DEVELOPERS,
L+M PARTNERS!
HELP SAVE OUR HOMES BY DONATING $50 (or what you can afford) towards our legal fund to keep KV affordable! JOIN US! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! CTKV March Press Release
