Baby Atlas Medical Relief Fund
Donation protected
Born on December 31st, 2020 at a whopping 1 pound 4 ounces, Atlas Wayne Brinker entered into the world a fighter and has continued his fight since. Atlas has been in the NICU since birth- first in Tulsa receiving transfusions, a colostomy, PICC line and a trach tube as well as numerous other procedures.
He recently was diagnosed with Pulmonary Stenosis and transferred to Oklahoma Children's Hospital where doctors planned to balloon one of three constricted pulmonary veins. Pre-surgery testing, however, showed his veins were too small and they were unable to continue with the planned treatment, giving Atlas parents the news that there was no treatment or cure for Baby Atlas. Doctors also confirmed that transplant was not a viable option as Atlas is simply too small.
After pleading with other doctors and hospitals, Dr. Burkhart of Oklahoma Children’s reached out to Atlas’ parents with his willingness to perform an experimental procedure and on July 20th he performed a risky open heart surgery and was able to open three restricted veins and substantially close up the hole in his heart.
The total cost of Atlas' treatments is unknown at this time as he continues to receive care, yet the numbers to date have proven to be nothing short of astronomical. After receiving several messages and comments asking how to help with medical expenses, as well as travel, his sisters have been given the blessing to set up a donation site. The family is humbled by the love and generosity of friends, family & the community.
We've included public posts about Atlas' first almost 7 months of life in the Updates section and will continue to post updates as they are shared by his Mom and Dad.
Again, thank you for supporting Atlas, Heather and Andrew!!
