Help Nico Make History in Venezuelan Psychiatry

Hi! I'm Nico Urrea, a Psychiatry thesis student and the first Venezuelan doctor in 15 years to be selected for the Jofré Scholarship in Dual Pathology. However, I need your help to cover my living expenses so I can fully dedicate myself to my training.

Get to know me a little better:

I am a Medical Surgeon, graduated from the Francisco de Miranda National Experimental University. Currently, I am a thesis student in the Psychiatry specialization program at the Central University of Venezuela, based at the Dr. Carlos Arvelo Military University Hospital in Caracas.

Recently, I had the honor of being selected by the Latin American Association of Psychiatrists (APAL) for a Specialized Health Training in Dual Pathology in Castellón, Spain, called the Jofré Scholarship. I competed with Residents/Psychiatrists from all over Latin America, and I am extremely proud to have been chosen. It's been more than 15 years since a Venezuelan has received this scholarship, which represents a significant achievement both personally and for Psychiatry in Venezuela.

Dual Pathology refers to the co-occurrence of a mental disorder along with a substance use disorder. This implies a complex approach in which both problems must be treated simultaneously to achieve effective recovery and improve patients' quality of life.

My training stay will be at the prestigious Consorcio Hospitalario Provincial de Castellón, from January to April, and from the 5th to the 7th of June, the 27th Congress of Dual Pathology will be held in Madrid, which I will have the honor of attending as a scholarship recipient. Although the scholarship will cover my air-trip transportation, lodging, and medical insurance, I still need support to cover the costs of living during my stay from January to June 2025. Living expenses include basic daily expenses such as food, local transportation, study materials, and other essential costs.

I am asking for your support so that I can take advantage of this incredible opportunity and, upon my return, develop the area of Dual Pathology in Venezuela, benefiting the patients and vulnerable populations who need it so much.

¡Hola! Soy Nico Urrea, tesista de Psiquiatría y el primer médico Venezolano en 15 años en ser seleccionado para la beca Jofré en Patología Dual. Sin embargo, necesito tu ayuda para cubrir los gastos de manutención y así dedicarme por completo a mi formación.

Conóceme un poco más:

Soy Médico Cirujano, egresado de la Universidad Nacional Experimental Francisco de Miranda. Actualmente, soy tesista del programa de especialización en Psiquiatría de la Universidad Central de Venezuela, con sede en el Hospital Militar Universitario Dr. Carlos Arvelo en Caracas.

Recientemente, tuve el honor de ser seleccionado por la Asociación de Psiquiatras de América Latina (APAL) para una Formación Sanitaria Especializada en Patología Dual en Castellón, España, llamada Beca Jofré. Competí con Residentes / Psiquiatras de toda Latinoamérica, y me siento extremadamente orgulloso de haber sido el elegido. Hace más de 15 años que un Venezolano no obtenía esta beca, lo que representa un logro significativo tanto a nivel personal como para la Psiquiatría en Venezuela.

La Patología Dual se refiere a la co-ocurrencia de un trastorno mental junto con un trastorno por uso de sustancias (drogas). Esto implica un abordaje complejo en el que se deben tratar ambos problemas de manera simultánea para lograr una recuperación efectiva y mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes.

Mi estancia formativa será en el prestigioso Consorcio Hospitalario Provincial de Castellón, de enero a abril, y del 5 al 7 de junio se realizará el 27º Congreso de Patología Dual en Madrid, al cual tendré el honor de asistir como becado. Si bien, la beca cubrirá mi transporte ida y vuelta, hospedaje y seguro médico; aún necesito apoyo para cubrir los costos de manutención durante mi estancia de enero a junio de 2025. La manutención incluye gastos diarios básicos como alimentación, transporte local, materiales de estudio y otros gastos esenciales.

Estoy solicitando tu apoyo para poder aprovechar esta increíble oportunidad y, a mi regreso, desarrollar el área de Patología Dual en Venezuela, beneficiando a los pacientes y poblaciones vulnerables que tanto lo necesitan.
