Asylum Seekers & Refugees in Rome.
Donazione protetta
WHAT?
On March 16, we are running the Rome Marathon to raise money for Centro Astalli, a charity dedicated to supporting asylum seekers and refugees in Rome. We want to contribute to a meaningful cause to the city we have grown up in.
WHO?
Moussa, a refugee from Mali, was studying to become a lawyer, only to be imprisoned and tortured following a rebellion. His escape led him through Algeria, Libya, and across the sea to Sicily. Now in Rome, thanks to Centro Astalli, he is learning Italian and hoping to rebuild his life as a mechanic.
WHY?
In 2023, Italy hosted 298,296 refugees, Many faced dangerous journeys—157,652 people arrived by sea in 2023, including 17,000 unaccompanied minors. Tragically, 2,571 migrants lost their lives attempting to cross the Mediterranean last year. After enduring traumatic and life-threatening journeys, refugees find crucial support at Centro Astalli, which helps them rebuild their lives and integrate into the community.
We were inspired by this cause primarily by watching the film "Io Capitano", which sheds light on the brutal realities of migration. We want to raise awareness and funds to help provide shelter, legal aid, education, and job training for refugees like Moussa.
Your donation can make a real difference. Please support our run and help us welcome those seeking safety in Italy.
