Trying to figure out what words to lead this off with is impossible.
My Uncle, Arthur Goldberg, passed away this morning at 5:45am peacefully in his home.
My Uncle had endured a war with cancer for the last four years, first with colon cancer and later it’s progression into liver cancer. For those of you who are unaware, my Uncle had many ailments. Among them being sleep apnea, REM sleep disorder, a brain tumor, and narcolepsy. He’d been surviving for 24 years, fighting every day for my cousin and my aunt, Nina . Even in hospitals stays and lab tests, scans, he would never miss an opportunity to crack a joke, mostly at Josh’s, expense. Though we’d go through it together, and it wasn’t always perfect, we made the most of the time we were given. We are so blessed and thankful that he made it to walk Brittany down the aisle.
And when tragedy struck my family again, taking his brother Warren, my Uncle absorbed myself and my siblings, Shayna and Mikel, as his own children. For not wanting children, my Uncle certainly had a habit of assuming that title to so many of the important people in Brittanys life: Rachel, Timothy, Jared, Michael and Lucas . To everyone touched by this extraordinary man: I know he would want people to remember him as the stubborn, wise, lovable asshole who always stood up for what was right, and worked hard, and never gave up.
Though as painful this time is, I know he is finally resting and rejoicing in being reunited with his mother, father, brother, and sister-in-law. We all love you!
