STOP THE EVICTION TODAY!

Donation protected
To My Fellow ALFers,

I had a dose of reality yesterday that put in perspective for me how privileged and blessed I am.   Some of the things that I sometimes take for granted -nice car, good health, rewarding career, comfortable home, happy and safe family and friends I can call on-- can appear as luxuries to those who were crushed by the recent recession and are still trying to climb their way back out of it.

Yesterday, a faithful member of my congregation came to see me and sheepishly reported with great embarrassment and almost ashamedly, that if he didn't get some help, he and his family (wife and two daughters) would be put out on the streets -- TODAY! (Friday at 3:30 pm)

I asked him why he waited so late to tell me.  He replied that he was hopeful that he would be able to sell a small plot of land he owned to get him out of the situation, but it won't happen fast enough.  He actually showed me the deed and told me that he also didn't want to burden the church, with his situation.

Yet, desperately he said, with tears in his eyes, "I will do anything, work long hours doing renovations, rehabbing property, yard work, construction or whatever, to keep my girls off the streets."

It turns out that his beloved has a chronic, debilitating arthritic condition that is mounting up medical bills.  Whereas, they once had a two- family income, her condition has made it that only one of them can work and lately, he has not been able to earn enough to make ends meet.  Unfortunately, this is the story of many in our region.

Today, I'm writing you to ask you help change the narrative and create a miracle in at least one family's life.

Unity of Sacramento wants to give Ronald Eaves and his family a "HAND UP!"   Our vision is that we help him to help himself.

I am in touch with Ron's landlord who informed me that she will work with me to help this family and call off the Sheriff but she must receive 50 percent of the total debt today. The family owes $3,500 in back rent and late fees.  If she receives $1,750 she will STOP eviction proceedings TODAY!  They will still owe the balance, but if she receive the funds today, they will sleep in their beds tonight and not on the streets.

For us, this may seem to be a modest amount, but to him it's the world.

Unity of Sacramento will serve as a fiscal agent to ensure that every cent raised goes DIRECTLY to the LANDLORD to stop the EVICTION!

Additionally, we will provide Ron and his family with job leads, career counseling, and appropriate interview attire to get him ready for work.

We will also give a tax deductible receipt to anyone donating for this cause.

Ron doesn't want a handout, he is asking for a HAND UP.  He's just fallen on hard times.  Ron has committed to providing his handyman, rehabilitation, and yard work services to anyone donating.  He wants to retain his dignity in this process.

Unity of Sacramento will make sure to connect all donors with Ron to make sure that he gets a chance to meet you, thank you and provide you with a service - if you so desire.

Who's willing to chip in TODAY to see to it that Sacramento has one less homeless family living on the streets?

I know we can do this!  The total need is $3,500.   Please let me know what you'll chip in to create a Miracle in one family's life today.

Anita and I are chipping in and donating the first $100.00!

Please let me know what you can do today!  Make your donations to Unity of Sacramento:  Memo: Ron Eaves Hand Up Fund!

If you'd like to donate online or via credit card, let me know and I'll send you a link.

Please call me directly on my cell with any questions you may have or any suggestions for work or other assistance.  This is not something I'll be doing often, but I felt led of Spirit.  I have two daughters and couldn't imagine them living on the streets for a second.

Thanks so much for being willing to make a difference in one family's life.   I know that you will be blessed!

But for the grace of God, go I!

Warmly,
Rev. Kev
