For more than 80 years, a small and highly specialised group of healthcare professionals has quietly safeguarded the wellbeing of adults and children undergoing surgery and complex procedures at Victoria’s hospitals.

We are Anaesthesia Technologists in Victoria, specialists whose entire careers are dedicated to the safety of adults and children receiving anaesthesia.

Our expertise is not theoretical. We are highly qualified, and it is built through years of supervised training, clinical experience, rapid emergency response, and deep familiarity with equipment and

procedures.

Why We Are Asking for Help

Despite decades of service, formal recognition by industrial commissions, and an unbroken record of patient safety, proposed workplace changes threaten to erode our roles, classifications, and professional identity.

These changes would:

Undermine long-standing agreements and career structures

Disregard rulings that formally recognised our specialist skills and title.

We have tried to resolve these issues through internal processes, but those efforts have not protected the profession or its future.

We want to ensure that our Profession remains in existence in Victoria and we can continue the vital work that we do and provide the same care as our professional colleagues in Western Australia and Queensland do.

As a specialised group of Allied Healthcare workers, registration of our profession will help ensure that our profession is given the recognition it deserves.

Across operating theatres, ICUs, Emergency Departments, MRI suites, and retrieval services, Anaesthesia Technologists serve as a vital safety net.

Why We Need Funding

Independent legal advice has confirmed that properly testing these matters may cost up to $100,000 an impossible burden for a small group of healthcare workers acting

alone.
