We have only been able to accomplish this for one reason and one reason only: the people.
We pride ourselves on offering up experiences, not meals, to our guests. None of our success, accolades, or warm words of thanks from our guests are possible without our staff, the people who have worked tirelessly day in and day out to make this great American dream a reality. It is the fact that our staff are willing to work so hard for each other to make sure that when our guests arrive they truly feel like they are being welcomed into a home that made us what we are today.
And it is you, our guests, who we would like to thank for coming into our homes for all these years. For embracing us and making us part of the community. We are working so hard for you and ensuring you truly have a unique, fun, positive and memorable experience. None of this would be possible without you and, for that, we would like to say thank you.
While this global crisis has brought hardships for all of us, it has hit particularly hard for those of us at Ambar Capitol Hill. The decision to close all restaurants in DC was made only one week before our grand reopening.
We had already been closed for two months for renovations, with the staff receiving payments of 50-70% of their weekly wages. We have said it time and time again, we are only as good as our people and we knew we were asking them to sacrifice today for the promise of a better tomorrow.
Unfortunately, that better tomorrow has not come as expected. For our staff, this pandemic came at the worst moment possible. When we made the decision to close Ambar, we never envisioned doing so for more than two months. We all expected and were planning to return to Ambar in late March. Now, our staff may find themselves without work for several months.
Our staff is some of, if not, the best in the city. You, our guests, have shown that to us with your continued support throughout the years. They have welcomed all our guests into our home and shown them the true meaning of Balkan hospitality.
In these trying times, it is your hospitality that we now ask of. This fund is for all front and back of the house staff at Ambar. Proceeds will be divided equally between the entire staff. When you donate you will receive 30% back in the form of an e-gift card as a gesture from Ivan Iricanin, CEO of the Street Guys Hospitality group.
It is in times like these that we turn to each other for support and realize how much we all mean to each other. It is in times like these that we realize the thanks we never said or didn’t say enough. And to you , our guests, thank you for all the yesterdays, for today, and for all the days to come. To you we raise a glass and say Živeli!
