Once upon a time, there was a beautiful, talented young lady named Amanda Dycus. She met a quiet, sweet, handsome and very intelligent man named Chris Duncan. They fell in love, the awesome kind of love where they are best friends and soul mates. They got married on May 8, 2010 and created a family with their precious girl Lilly. They experienced the typical ups and downs and challenges of life but their relationship and family have remained loyal and strong over the 5 years of their marriage.
On December 4th, 2015, Amanda began having severe stomach pains. She immediately went to the emergency room and was put in the hospital with what the doctors diagnosed as a severe case of pancreatitis. By Sunday evening, December 6th, Amanda was so sick that the doctors inserted a breathing tube so that they could give her more pain medicine and ensure that enough oxygen was getting to her organs. One of the effects of severe pancreatitis is that other organs such as liver, lungs, kidneys and heart can be damaged, resulting in a condition called Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). This is what began happening to Amanda more than a week ago. She is currently in the ICU and on a ventilator to give her lungs a chance to recover. It’s been a roller coaster for the past week and a half. We accept that we do not know what the future holds, but Amanda is the strongest person we know and we believe she will pull through this.
Thankfully, Amanda is slowly improving and we are so grateful and thankful for that. However, her recovery is going to be a long road. Chris, Amanda’s husband and soulmate, is by her side constantly and was unable to work for an entire week. It will likely be months before Amanda is able to work again.
On behalf of our beloved brother Chris Duncan, sister-in-law Amanda, and precious niece Lilly, the Duncan sisters are making it our mission to raise $10,000 for them as quick as we can so we can help lighten their financial stress load just a little. It’s so difficult to deal with these challenges, let alone the rapidly mounting expenses associated.
