Alexander & Family Fire Fund

Donation protected
Hi Family & Friends,

On Saturday April 2, 2016 at approximately 1:15 p.m., my family's 3 story apartment building went up in flames. The fire started in the first floor apartment of my 89 year old great aunt Clarissa Alexander's bedroom. The fire was caused by a short in a power strip cord, that quickly sparked a fire to her carpet and mattress. Luckily her son, my uncle Alberto Alexander was in the next room and was able to grab her from the bed and run her out of the building just before the fire consumed the entire apartment.

My aunt was hospitalized and released due to smoke inhilation. We are so grateful that she was not seriously hurt.

My father, a family friend and his wife all resided in the third floor apartment. By the Lord's grace and his grace alone, no one else in my family was hurt and all occupants who were home were able to quickly get out via the fire escapes.

What wasn't destroyed by the fire was destroyed from water damage and inches of thick black soot that blanketed everything. All that wasn't lost due to the fire was understandably broken and damaged by New York's Bravest who risked their lives to put out the blaze and by leaving no stone unturned, literally, to ensure that no one was left behind. Our family is forever grateful to all of the first responders that were on scene within minutes from FDNY, NYPD, EMS and The Red Cross.

My family and I are blessed that there was no loss of life and that no one sustained any life threatening injuries. However, my family has essentially lost everything. Their home, clothes, furniture and all of the sentimental items that unfortunately will never be replaced. My 89 year old great aunt Clarissa Alexander who owns the building, had lived there for over 45 years and it has been her home since coming to the United States from Cuba many decades ago. Unfortunately, the insurance on the home only covered the structure of the building and not the contents within.

We are asking for donations of any size to go towards relocation efforts for everyone in the family who has been displaced and trying to rebuild their lives. Please be sure to take a moment out of your day to share our GoFundMe page on your Facebook pages and other social media forums to help spread the word. Every little bit helps and is truly appreciated. Thank you for all of the love, support and prayers!

God Bless,
G. Kyomi
