This GoFund Me is dedicated to raising funds for Alessa Schmalbach. She is a Los Angeles based DJ, artist and performer who’s income has been severely impacted due to COVID-19. As a Trans Woman of Color, Alessa’s ability to find employment and thrive is already at a disadvantage compared to her white allies. Alessa is talented and hard working and deserves the resources to make it through this pandemic.
She lost both her jobs at the beginning of quarantine and with unemployment benefits dwindling she is in need of our help. She worked hard over the past six months to achieve a source of income through social media only to have Twitter ban her account and back ups. This has caused significant financial strain and technical support has not responded for weeks. She has had to sacrifice money set aside for gender confirmation procedures to survive. She is also looking to fund a move out of Los Angeles so that she can be closer to her primary source of income and lessen the cost of living.
These funds will be used to help secure housing, food and health resources for Alessa. Let’s show up for her as a member of our community and invest in her ability to flourish.
