My name is Alba, and I’m a Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology major with a lifelong passion for nature and the world’s ecosystems. My journey into biology began in elementary school, when I first learned about the rainforests of Central America. Since then, I’ve been inspired by the beauty and complexity of our planet, and I’ve always dreamed of experiencing these places firsthand.
This summer, I have the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua and Costa Rica with GIVE Volunteers, an organization dedicated to cultural immersion and meaningful service. I’ll be working alongside local communities—teaching English to children, farming organic foods, supporting a sea turtle conservation center, and helping at a wildlife rescue center. GIVE’s mission of connecting people across cultures and making a real impact aligns perfectly with my values.
Love is my biggest passion, and I believe it’s the most important thing we can share. The world can feel hateful and divided, especially with the current political climate between America and Nicaragua. But I want to show that what you see on the news doesn’t reflect all people. People are beautiful, and love is all around us—we just need to show it more. Through this trip, I hope to build genuine connections, spread positivity, and remind others that kindness and understanding can bridge any divide. The funds raised will help cover my program fees (which include housing and meals), flights, and direct support for the community projects I’ll be part of. This experience will help me grow as a person and deepen my appreciation for the world’s diversity and the importance of giving back. I’m aiming to have all donations in by late spring, just before my trip begins in June. Thank you for helping me make this journey possible and for supporting both my growth and the communities I’ll serve.
