Ajude-nos na recuperação após o incêndio: Apoie o abutre-preto no Parque Natural do Douro Internacional

Olá! O meu nome é José Pereira e represento a Palombar - Conservação da Natureza e do Património Rural, uma ONG portuguesa que trabalha para proteger espécies ameaçadas e restaurar habitats naturais.

Somos parceiros orgulhosos do projeto LIFE Aegypius Return (saiba mais aqui), que visa recuperar a população de abutre-preto (Aegypius monachus) em Portugal. A nossa equipa, com o apoio da Faia Brava - Associação de Conservação da Natureza, é responsável pelo programa de aclimatação e reforço populacional no Parque Natural do Douro Internacional (PNDI), uma das áreas de reprodução mais frágeis e isoladas de Portugal para esta emblemática espécie.

Em 15 de agosto de 2025, um incêndio devastador atingiu o PNDI, queimando mais de 15.000 hectares de habitat de reprodução e alimentação. Infelizmente, o fogo também destruiu grande parte da nossa estação de aclimatação e infraestruturas de apoio à colonização do PNDI pelos abutres-pretos, incluindo:

Apesar de termos conseguido salvar os seis abutres que se encontravam, nesse momento, na estação de aclimatação, a perda de infraestrutura compromete gravemente os esforços de conservação.

Porque é que isto é importante?

O abutre-preto é uma das aves de rapina mais raras da Europa. A pequena colónia no Douro Internacional contava apenas com oito casais reprodutores antes do incêndio, dos quais dois ficaram com o ninho totalmente destruído e outros dois com o ninho severamente afetado pelas chamas.

Sem uma ação urgente, corremos o risco de perder esta população por completo.

Estamos comprometidos em restaurar a estação e o habitat envolvente, mas precisamos da tua ajuda para cobrir os custos extraordinários.

Help Us Recover After the Fire: Support the Cinereous Vulture in the Douro International Natural Park

Hello! My name is José Pereira and I represent Palombar – Nature Conservation and Rural Heritage, a Portuguese NGO working to protect endangered species and restore natural habitats.

We are proud partners of the LIFE Aegypius Return project (learn more here), which aims to restore the population of the cinereous vulture (Aegypius monachus) in Portugal. Our team is responsible, with the support of Faia Brava – Nature Conservation Association for the acclimatisation and population reinforcement programme in the Douro International Natural Park (PNDI), one of the most fragile and isolated breeding areas for this iconic species in the country.

On 15 August 2025, a devastating wildfire struck the PNDI, burning over 15,000 hectares of vital feeding and breeding habitat. Sadly, the fire also destroyed much of our acclimatisation station (soft-release) and key infrastructure supporting the colonisation of the PNDI by cinereous vultures, including:

Although we managed to save the six vultures that were in the acclimatisation station at the time, the loss of infrastructure severely compromises our conservation efforts.

Why This Matters

The cinereous vulture is one of Europe’s rarest birds of prey. The small colony in the Douro International area had only eight breeding pairs before the fire, two of which lost their nests completely, and another two had nests severely damaged by the flames.

Without urgent action, we risk losing this population entirely.

We are committed to restoring the station and the surrounding habitat, but we need your help to cover the extraordinary costs.
