Avete presente quei quadri appesi alle pareti di casa. Quelli a cui siete affezionati, che portate sempre con voi, di trasloco in trasloco, e che improvvisamente cadono a terra. Il chiodo cede e viene giù tutto.
Per Nicla è andata esattamente così.
Due figli, 36 anni, viaggiatrice, tecnica di radiologia al Meyer di Firenze. Innamorata dell’amicizia e di Cesare, il suo compagno. Madre di Ernesto (di tre anni), il 18 agosto nasce Arturo, il suo secondo figlio. Appena sei giorni dopo, il 24 agosto, a Nicla si rompe un aneurisma cerebrale mentre è in camera ad allattare il suo bambino. Il chiodo cede e tutto viene giù.
La corsa in ospedale, a Careggi, gli interventi che si susseguono.
Da quel momento per lei e i suoi cari inizia una battaglia durissima.
Dopo mesi di coma Nicla si trova ancora in uno stato di coscienza minima, ma combatte ogni giorno con una forza straordinaria per tornare alla vita.
Il percorso di recupero sarà ancora lungo e complesso: serviranno cure, riabilitazione specialistica, assistenza continua e un sostegno concreto per permettere alla sua famiglia di affrontare un momento così difficile.
A casa, Cesare si prende cura dei due bambini con l’aiuto dei genitori di Nicla, trasferiti in emergenza. Per poter stare vicino ai figli e andare a trovare Nicla in ospedale, Cesare ha ridotto il suo lavoro da tempo pieno a part-time.
Chi vi scrive sono gli amici di Nicla, la sua casa da sempre. Lo facciamo perché lei e la sua famiglia hanno bisogno di un aiuto anche economico. Il recupero da un danno neurologico così grave, infatti, può richiedere un percorso lunghissimo, con costi molto elevati che superano quanto coperto dal sistema pubblico.

You know those paintings hanging on the walls of your home? The ones you’re deeply attached to, that follow you from house to house, move after move, and then suddenly crash to the ground. The nail gives way, and everything comes tumbling down.
For Nicla, this is exactly what happened.
Two children, 36 years old, a traveler, and a radiology technician at the Meyer Children’s Hospital in Florence. A woman in love with friendship and with Cesare, her partner. Already mother to three-year-old Ernesto, she gave birth to her second son, Arturo, on August 18th. Just six days later, on August 24th, Nicla suffered a brain aneurysm while in her room breastfeeding her baby. The nail gave way, and everything came down.
A desperate rush to Careggi Hospital followed, along with one surgery after another. Since that moment, a grueling battle has begun for her and her loved ones.
After months in a coma, Nicla remains in a state of minimal consciousness, but she fights every single day with extraordinary strength to return to life. Her path to recovery will be long and complex: she will need specialized care, rehabilitation, constant assistance, and concrete support to help her family navigate such a difficult time.
At home, Cesare cares for their two children with the help of Nicla’s parents, who moved in immediately to help with the emergency. To stay close to his children and visit Nicla in the hospital, Cesare has had to reduce his work from full-time to part-time. Nicla worked at the Meyer Hospital but, once her sick leave expires, she will likely face dismissal due to her disability.
We, Nicla’s lifelong friends—her "home" since forever—are writing to you. We are doing this because she and her family need financial assistance. Recovery from such severe neurological damage can take a very long time, involving high costs that far exceed what is covered by the public healthcare system.
Your contribution will concretely help Nicla’s family to:
- Ensure continuity of specialized rehabilitative care and the acquisition of technological aids (to supplement public ones) to foster recovery and improve her quality of life;
- Manage the daily needs of two small children during this emergency, supporting her partner as he shoulders every responsibility;

Von diesem Moment an beginnt für Nicla und ihre Familie ein harter Kampf.
Nach Monaten im Koma befindet sich Nicla noch immer in einem Zustand minimalen Bewusstseins.
Doch sie kämpft jeden Tag mit außergewöhnlicher Kraft darum, ins Leben zurückzukehren.
Der Weg der Genesung wird lang und komplex sein.
Es braucht spezialisierte Behandlungen, kontinuierliche Rehabilitation, ständige Betreuung und konkrete Unterstützung für ihre Familie.
Zuhause kümmert sich Cesare um die beiden Kinder, unterstützt von Niclas Eltern, die sofort angereist sind.
Um für seine Kinder da zu sein und Nicla im Krankenhaus besuchen zu können, hat Cesare seine Arbeit auf Teilzeit reduziert.
Nicla war am Meyer-Krankenhaus angestellt, doch nach Ablauf des Krankengeldes droht ihr sehr wahrscheinlich die Kündigung.
Wir, Niclas engste Freunde – seit jeher ihr Zuhause –, schreiben dir heute.
Wir tun dies, weil Nicla und ihre Familie auch auf finanzielle Hilfe angewiesen sind.
Die Genesung nach einem so schweren neurologischen Schaden ist lang und mit hohen Kosten verbunden, die das öffentliche Gesundheitssystem nicht vollständig abdeckt.
