Aid Rebekah's Family: From Homelessness to Hope

Hi, I'm Rebekah, a single mom of four handsome boys from Florida, and this year hasn't been the greatest for us at all. I really didn't want to make one of these personally, but sometimes you have to stop being hard-headed and ask for help.

In September, I had to have emergency surgery on my left kidney. I still need another couple of surgeries, but I just don't have the finances or help with my children, like child care, or a place to heal, in order to do so. Then a long comes Milton and hits really hard, leaving us homeless, carless, and everything we owned is literally destroyed. The whole house was flooded, and we had to wait to be rescued. It was seriously the scariest thing we have ever been through. To get woken up by your oldest and next to oldest freaking out because there's water everywhere. It was pitch black, so we couldn't see anything; all you could hear is how hard the wind is blowing the house and how hard the rain is coming down and starting to literally pour in the doors. So we sat in silence and cried and prayed because we were so scared. We knew no one would be able to come until the morning. As the night continued we watched the water rise from floor level to the bed level and couch level. Then it was also coming in both doors, the windows, the walls, and outlets. The house started gurgling. Thank God the morning came and we can get help and be rescued. However, now we are going from place to place with absolutely nothing.

We've been in and out of shelters. We are thankful that we are still altogether as a family, but it's so devastating to have everything taken away and to start ALL OVER from nothing.

I need help for real. I've done everything I can think of, and quite frankly, this is my last hope. I know that all of us are going through so many things right now, some way worse than others, but we just need help to get the car back on the road. I would like help with a place so my children don't have to worry about where they will be sleeping. I need the kidney surgeries so I can be able to spend time with the kids and not be in pain or sick all the time.

We will be VERY grateful for anything right now, because like I said, we have absolutely nothing. It's heartbreaking to hear the children to cry for shelter, or even the most basic things like clothes and shoes. I need something better for my kids.
