Update: We are absolutely thrilled by reaching our original goal in such a short time!!! We would like to thank you everyone for your generosity and dedication to fight racism and promote equity.
As some educators from Livingston Elementary schools approached us for advices in improving the diversity of school materials, it reminds us the importance of building a loving and inclusive environment for our young children. We decided to raise our goal to support local elementary schools by providing age-appropriate AAPI-themed books. Our new goal is to raise $ 2,800 to purchase extra books to donate to Livingston Elementary school libraries. The fund we already raised will still be used for original designated purpose and the surplus will still be donated to Livingston public library in the name of AAPI community of Livingston.
Asian American and Pacific Islander ("AAPI") Heritage Month is the month of May dedicated to recognize the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.
Livingston is well known for its diverse community and equitable environment. With the recent appalling and disturbing surge in violence against AAPI community, our Multicultural Parents Association feels the need to increase cultural and historical awareness to dispel stereotypes and prejudices held towards AAPI community. We believe the fight against racism takes all of us, and one way to begin is to share our stories and voices.
Livingston Multicultural Parents Association is raising funds to purchase AAPI-themed books and donate them to Livingston Public Library in honor of the AAPI Heritage Month. Our goal is to raise $1,000 to purchase books with the choice of the library to complete our recommended full list of 70 books. Any surplus will be donated to Livingston public library in the name of AAPI community of Livingston.
Our fundraiser will start today till May 10. You can also join us on Facebook for further updates: https://www.facebook.com/groups/802200314013953/
Thank you for your support and your generosity is highly appreciated.
