Jacob’s blood sugar levels can swing from dangerously low to alarmingly high in a matter of minutes, and because he is so young, he cannot yet recognize these symptoms on his own. The cost of a diabetic alert dog is staggering. Training and placement amount to between $20,000 and $25,000, with an initial $5,000 deposit just to get on the waiting list. This is an amount we simply cannot afford. We are already burdened with medical bills and lingering debt from before Jacob’s diagnosis.
