Well, as you can see from the photo, I am living in my car. I moved back from Houston, Texas to Southern California to be with my daughter as she starts her journey through college. But as with every plan that people devise, things did not go accordingly.
A little about me: I am a disabled veteran who recently moved back to Southern California to be with my daughter. As I stated before, I can't really work, and being homeless, getting a job right now isn't really an option. I cannot stay at shelters due to the fact that I have cats and I have medication that needs to be kept refrigerated. Trusting it to a shelter, considering how important it is to me (it is diabetes medication), I cannot do that.
So now I find myself living in my car in West LA and trying to work with the VA on getting me rehoused in hopefully affordable accommodations. If anybody knows anything about Southern California and LA County, it is really expensive out here. Fortunately, it's nothing like Houston. So I have started the process with the VA and Housing and Urban Development, but that will take time. How much time, I do not know. However, my hope is it takes less than 2 months.
In the meantime, my cats, Raven and Chin, are living with me. As a result, since I lack any meaningful funds at the moment, even with my disability, which might seem significant, in Southern California it's really nothing. We're living in my car. I cannot even afford a week at a local motel; that is how expensive it is out here.
Since I'm not sure how long I will be living in my car, there are a few things that I am constantly worried about in terms of resources, namely gas for my car so I can continue moving around and keeping things running, including the AC so the cats don't burn up because it is hot out here too, food for myself and the cats, and emergencies as they might come up. So I'm reaching out to any and everybody who comes across this post, this thread, this donation page for any amount they can help with, whether it's a one-time donation or monthly donation. Everything and anything works. Maybe it'll be enough to grab a motel room for a week, maybe for a month, though I'm not shooting for that as my immediate goal simply because it is a very lofty goal. For right now, I'm just trying to keep myself and my cats safe, relatively comfortable, and in good health.
So if there is anyone who can help, whether you pass it on to the next person so they can pass it on or you donate or whatever the case, please, I'm looking for anything I can get. Thank you.
