Rodney's Help to Get to Next Stage
Donazione protetta
Getting sick and almost dying 9 years ago was the roughest time I have ever been through. Coming back from the dead definitely takes the prize of most difficult.
But this time right now is up there too in the stratosphere of top difficult times. This period is one of the most brilliant of times, and rough as F*#K! lol
I am reminded of American Werewolf in London as he screams and writhes in agony as he transforms. lol
Out of this process, as I have had to take the time to breath for a minute to really deeply take a step back even further and re-engineer everything about my entire life.
Out of that re-engineering, I have found a new firestorm of possibilities. It is amazing the way this whole mess has created the needed catalist to guide my art/creation in the direction that it may have always been meant to go in.
Things from childhood that being in my hometown as much as I have been lately has triggered all kinds of memories and inspirations. That return to childhood roots and then the added technology of the Pittsburgh area that is forming as a fusion of Rodney the art director, Rodney the filmmaker and Rodney the artist is combining all of my experience and finding a new vision. This vision is being met with encouragement, support and good solid councel on engaging the world of art instalation grant writing. And a first big prject called THE TIME MACHINE! See the description below!
Even a recent meeting in NYC with a very very new broadcasting platform has revised a hysterical weekly broadcast that Eddie and I are planning called “FIX IT or F*#K IT!” Where we try to fix something, and if we can, awesome, if we cant, f*#k it, we turn it into a lamp! lol
This spring is also seeing the launch of another idea I created called LEIA’S DEAD. A sort of journal and guide to the new world for those of us at a certain age who as children watched in wonder as that first Star Wars film reflected off those silver screens and filled so many of us with inspiration about the possiblities in the universe.
Kids who are now adults who find ourselves around the age of 50, considered too old and expensive for much of the industries we all thought would be life careers. THe world is changing and economists and a lot of books are telling the tale. LEIA’S DEAD will be a late 70s early 80s pop icon filled guide to the new world of work and industry. ( insider info: we are transitioning into the age of the entrepreneur.)
I WILL get to this next stage one way or another, but if you are able to, please help me get there. Together we can do so much more than seperately. And truly this next project is going to be amaing! THE TIME MACHINE is priorty one!
If you can, I thank you.

THE NEXT PROJECT: THE TIME MACHINE
“Make America Great Again?”
History is always written by the winners, right or wrong. In the 30’s & 40’s in America, Franklin Delano Roosevelt may have pushed dramatic improvements for average Americans, but that was a terrible time to be Jewish or Gay in Germany. For whites in America the 50s & 60’s might seem better, but that would not be the case if you were black in America at that time. Similarly, the 90s may have launched the internet and a new revolution of information but you would be lucky to be alive today if you were in Rwanda and were Tutsi.
The only time that even has the potential to be good for EVERYONE is the future.
The spark of inspiration for this piece came from the presumptuous “Make America great again.” slogan and a conversation with an editor friend about how we have not had anything that is really good to rally behind together as Americans since the space program ended. This conversation stimulated me to research those triangle cone shaped space capsules that are the only parts that hold the crew and return to earth after a space flight. While looking and researching these capsules it occurred to me, in this stage of distorted history, that I want to build a time machine to set the record straight on when was GREAT for all of us. Using high-speed programed internet sorting and curating system I can fill the room and experience with rapidly projecting images on all four walls of the room housing The Time Machine. This whole idea of building a space ship or traveling machine of some sort is part of my own very vivid childhood day-dreaming and fantasies I used to imagine all the time. Having moved my studio back home to Pittsburgh, I am finding an exciting alignment with the deep media and arts experience I have had during my 30 years in NYC along with a reawakened childhood imagination of Spielberg and Lucas induced space travels and adventures.
My Time Machine will reveal the good and the bad of any year that is punched into its console by boldly blanketing all surrounding walls in the room with projected and rapidly switching images and news from the internet streaming through high-speed search engines. My Time Machine would be programed to sort and shuffle images focusing on peace, war, ground-breaking inventions, human progress, set backs, triumphs, atrocities and dramatic failures. A mix of the good and bad.
This project experience starts with My Time Machine sitting in a white walled room. Preferably square. A visitor sits in the time machine and punches a year into the console. There is a moment of light and movement of parts and small devises in The Time Machine as the internet search engines process. Then images begin to project on the walls increasing in speed and wall coverage until these projected images are all over the walls everywhere around you. The images keep swapping in and out, overlapping like a collage everywhere. The capsule I would build from found materials like some insane garage inventor with wires and lights and cables everywhere and small moving parts all over it. The machine will be shaped quite like one of these actual returning space capsules because I like the idea that these are some of the only machines that have stepped away from earth enough to actually get a good objective look at all of the human race on earth.
For those intrigued more with the future, programing will mix the search algorithms to focus on predicted environmental changes, very progressive architecture, engineering experimentation for the future as well as new predicted technology possibilities for that future.
